What a suprise

When I was almost seven years old, we moved again out of my grandparents’ house.  I was in first grade going to school in the city and when I started second grade I went to school in the country.  Those two years of school had me confused because I didn’t know anyone.  Well, I did the best I could because I knew my dad would really get mad if I didn’t.

I made one friend in second grade. Her name was Mary. We were in the same class throughout elementary school.  I was in the fourth grade, and we had PTA at school.  Momma went to the PTA meeting at school.  Mary was there with her mom, so Mary and I were going to get them together.  I wasn’t so sure how my mom would react because my parents had never really let me have friends.  I told my mom that I wanted her to meet someone.  I could tell she didn’t want; but wasn’t going to make a scene there.  Mary and I had our fingers crossed, they talked a while.  I couldn’t believe it, my mom said we could be friends.  I just about jumped up and down right there.  Then PTA meeting was just about over.  Mary’s mom came over to say goodnight. Next thing I knew Mary’s mom was asking my mom if I could come and spend the night this weekend with them.  Well, lo and behold my mom agreed!  The only thing my mom told me on the way home was I couldn’t invite Mary to spend any time at our house.  My parents liked to live without any friends.
