One of the memories that I treasure is when our family spent Thanksgiving Day in a way that most probably doesn’t. The day started out with my grandfather and I spending time with GOD while my grandmother got breakfast ready. Then after breakfast he would read all the notes that were in the glass jar on the table. After they were all read my grandparents and I would pray over them asking for everyone on the notes be blessed to overflowing.
My grandfather and I would go to people’s houses that we knew were having a hard time and didn’t have anything for Thanksgiving dinner. We would either bring them a Thanksgiving dinner or tell them what time dinner was and to come join us. The people that we knew a head of time needed help we would buy all the fixings for Thanksgiving dinner and deliver it the night before however they never knew where it came from because we would put it on the porch, ring the doorbell or knock on the door then hide so that they didn’t know it was us.
Our family always found a place that was serving Thanksgiving dinner to the less fortunate and help serve those before we went home to prepare for all that would be coming to their house for Thanksgiving dinner. Yes, we had family and friends that came from out of state or out of town however they seem to always join us in our serving of others and accepted the extra visitors for dinner. Everyone knew that my grandparents’ door was always open to anyone no matter the time or date.
